This short course is ideal if you are a complete beginner and would like to try drawing in a supportive environment. It will give you a general introduction to drawing and wou will be taught how to observe and record line and tone using a range of materials. You will also be introduced to different mark-making techniques and elements of composition.

Course Content

The course is studio-based so projects will largely be concentrated on the still-life. The emphasis will be on observational drawing and you will be taught how to interpret your surroundings.

This structured course will introduce you to line and tone using a range of materials including pencil, chalk, charcoal and ink.

Each week will focus on a particular drawing approach such as positive and negative space, near and far, light to convey form and mark making. You will receive plenty of one to one tuition to enable you to achieve. The course will give you a chance to exchange ideas with others and participate in supportive group critiques.

Entry Requirements

This is a beginners course so no previous learning is assumed.

First Class Requirements

Paper will be available to purchase

• A range of pencils, B, 2B, 4B, eraser and sharpener
• You will be advised on additional materials if they are required.
