Ceramics Throwing - Beginners

This exciting, hands-on course is designed to introduce you to throwing pots on an electric pottery wheel.

Course Content

• You will develop an understanding of the nature of clay and its possibilities
• You will learn how to prepare clay for use on the wheel
• You will be able to make upright and open form (including handles and footrings)
• You will learn how to glaze and otherwise decorate your own work

Entry Requirements

This course is open to anyone who would like to learn how to make pots on the pottery wheel. It's ideal if you're a complete beginner or if you have some knowledge of ceramics but have mainly concentrated on handbuilding techniques, but do not yet feel confident on the wheel.

First Class Requirements

Please bring on your first day an apron or ‘workshop’ clothes, a small hand towel, a sketchbook and pen/pencil, and any tools you have.

Attendance Requirements

Regular attendance will help you gain maximum benefit from the course.

Assessment Methods

There is no formal assessment, however you will receive regular feedback from your tutor and peers.

There are lots of ceramics courses here that you can progress onto.

Additional Information

You will be required to pay for materials that you use from the college and for your firing. Details will be given out at the first class and prices will be dependent on materials used and size of work. You may also bring in your own glass, clay or wax etc should you wish to, however there is no storage on site for materials unless they are purchased from the college.
