Prepare for Work Graphic Design

This course focuses on introducing you to the world of graphic design and developing graphic design projects where you will understand the role and application of graphic design, research ideas and plan for a graphic design project.

The course is aimed at individual seeking employment, freelancers needing to produce graphic design for their work or for those wishing to go into higher study.

Course Content

The course covers the following content:

- Understand the role and application of Graphic Design
- Know the tools and equipment used in graphic design projects
- Be able to research ideas for graphic design
- Be able to plan and prepare for a graphic design project
- Understand the functions of typography
- Understand the formal elements of typography
- Be able to create design work using typography
- Be able to complete graphic design project(s) to a brief
- Be able to review your own graphic design work
- Process in the Development and Realisation of Ideas
- Preparation for Employment in the Creative and Digital Industries

The modules are taught so that you gain knowledge of best practice and are able to evaluate your work so that work practices are efficient.

The methods of teaching are:
Project work
Ongoing Class assignments

For many of our courses in creative computing and technology, you will be entitled to a free Adobe Creative Cloud license using your student account. This means that you will be able to download the applications to your home computer to be able to practise in between your classes. Ask your tutor for more information or email rbs@rhacc.ac.uk

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.

You should have a working knowledge of Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator, at least to the extent that you can progress your projects independently without needing to be shown how to use the programs at a basic and intermediate level.

First Class Requirements

You should have a good, practical understanding of how to manipulate and create imagery using Photoshop. You may also have some knowledge of Illustrator and InDesign.

It would be useful to have access to a computer with graphics software outside course hours so that you can progress your project in your own time. You will be eligible to subscribe at the discounted student rate once you have enrolled as a student at RHACC.
