Local residents have welcomed RACC’s (Richmond Adult Community College’s) recession busting initiative – with the number enrolling for courses running more than 30% above a year ago.
To date, more than 2000 adult learners have signed up for a wide variety of courses at the College’s summer school compared to just over 1,400 learners a year ago.
“Increasingly people are realising that one way of surviving the recession is to both develop existing skills and acquire new ones,” explains RACC’s Principal, Christina Conroy. “With unemployment rising, employers are able to be very selective when taking on new employees or promoting existing staff. The more relevant qualifications a person has the greater their chance of success.”
Following the success of the College’s Surviving Recession Day when several hundred people attended a series of workshops and seminars held to advise on how to cope with the problems of the economic downturn, RACC introduced Recession Busters – a range of courses offering discounts of up to 75% on standard fees.
In addition, the College is running a number of Taster Sessions during Adult Learners Week between 9th and 15th May so that potential learners can access a course before committing themselves.
