A programme of courses – many offering discounts of up to 75% - is being introduced for the summer by RACC (Richmond Adult Community College) to help people cope with the recession.
More than 250 courses are on offer covering a wide range of subjects in Art & Design, Business Finance & Information Technology, Foreign Languages, Graphic Design, Multimedia & Web, Creative Writing, Journalism & Media, Learning & Development and Leisure & Lifestyle.
The courses are being run from now (20 April) until early July, many offering substantial savings on standard fees – in some cases from just £1 per hour. There are also a number of free ‘Taster Sessions’ in May during Adult Learners Week (9th -15th May) so that people can access a course before committing themselves.
The launch of the new Recession Busters is the second stage in RACC’s programme of helping local people deal with the economic downturn and follows the success of the recent Surviving Recession Day which attracted hundreds to the College for support and guidance from independent experts and employment opportunities and advice from local businesses.
Explained RACC’s Principal, Christina Conroy: “We are committed to helping residents combat the effects of the recession. One of the ways they can do so is by developing existing skills and acquiring new ones. During these gloomy times it is also important that people are offered opportunities to improve their quality of life, which is why the curriculum has an extensive selection of learning and lifestyle courses.
“We recognise that many of our learners are experiencing financial difficulties at this time and so we have created a number of ‘Recession Busters’ – courses which cost as little as £1 an hour including all materials and examination fees.”
