Adopting a totally new approach to the design of its course guide has won a prestigious award for a South West London college.
RACC (Richmond Adult Community College) was Highly Commended in the Part-Time/Adult Prospectus category in the Further Education Awards run by The College Marketing Network.
Faced with the need to reduce costs while at the same time attracting more students, the college changed the format from A4 to A5, which not only lowered print and mailing costs but also made the guide easier to store, distribute and display.
The in-house team, headed by Design Manager, Nilesh Kabaria and Web Developer/Photographer, Kevin Kennedy, then looked at enhancing the guide’s visual impact.
A new cover was created using a silver foil block finish for the RACC logo to increase its prominence against the predominantly green background, with a gloss laminate further strengthening the superior image the designers wanted to achieve.
Inside, course categories were colour coded to make reference quicker and easier and, while providing all essential information, the contents were streamlined with numerous referrals to the college’s recently redesigned website.
As a result of the new look, demand for the 2009-10 guide has almost trebled compared to last year, and the number of distribution points has significantly increased due to its more compact, user friendly, format.
