Tutor Approval Required? Yes – You will be required to show evidence of relevant skills either by bringing your certificates or doing an initial assessment task. Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology is the foundation upon which all other Complementary, Beauty and Sports therapy awards are based. It encompasses all systems of the body.
It is a prerequisite for the Body Massage, Reflexology & Aromatherapy Diploma courses.
You should either already have this qualification or enrol on this course at the same time as one of the above.
You should be over 18 years of age and have 5 GCSEs grade A*-C, or equivalent, although exemption may be made for adult returnees with experience of the workplace.
If English is not your first language you will need to have a very good standard of written and spoken English.
It is essential for therapists to have a sound understanding of Anatomy and Physiology, a they will be working in direct contact with the body structures.
It is also vital that they have a comprehensive knowledge of diseases and disorders of the human body so that they are aware of when and where not to treat a client, and only operate within certain parameters.
At the end of the course your work will be assessed by an ITEC Examiner:
• Practical exam assessment by ITEC Examiner
• Course work – marked by tutor & verified by an external examiner
• Case Studies – marked by tutor & verified by an external examiner
You will be required to complete case study treatments during the course working with a variety of clients in your own time: if you are completing this course alongside a therapy-based course, such as, Aromatherapy, Massage, Reflexology, Indian Head Massage. These will be assessed by your tutor throughout the course, internally verified within the college, then externally verified by the ITEC examiner at the time of the practical exam.
Your case studies will need to be written legibly & it is recommended that they be completed with the aid of a computer.

You must attend 80% of the course. It is very important that you are on time for the start of each class, as this is part of your professional practice.
On successful completion of this course you will be able to operate your own clinic or home visiting practice, or be able to gain employment in the complementary therapy industry.
You will be able to progress to other qualification courses such as Massage, Aromatheray, On Site Massage, Reflexology, Indian Head Massage, or Beauty Therapy courses.

“How much homework will I need to do outside of class?”
You should expect to spend up to 5 hours per week doing additional home study and coursework. ITEC also recommend that you spend between 3-5 hours on each case study treatment. Some of your work will need to be completed on a computer.
Please be aware that this may vary throughout the year and at sometimes you may need to spend more time studying than others. It is essential that you use your own personal free time to do this, to get the most out of the course but also to complete assignments.
“What will happen if I miss a class?”
You are expected to attend every class and arrive on time. You should inform your Tutor if your are unable to attend, or are likely to be late.
Class/homework materials will be made available to you via MOODLE which you will be expected to access and make up in our own time. You will also be expected to email the class representative for information about work that you have missed
“When will the exams take place?”
At the end of the course the ITEC Examiner will assess your practical skill and verify the coursework that your tutor has marked during the course.
The Practical assessment is graded at: Pass 60-74%, Merit 75-89%, Distinction 90-100%
The Case Studies & Coursework are graded: Pass or Refer
“What happens if I am referred for some of my coursework?”
If you are unsuccessful in any area, you will be reassessed only in the unit where you did not receive a pad grade. Reassessment should be completed within one year of the original assessment and the remainder of your results will stay in the ITEC system until all your assessment s have been allocated a pas grade.
“Is there any tutorial support?”
There is no formal tutorial system. Within class time your tutor will give you support and guidance, on an ongoing basis.
Material will be uploaded onto the MOODLE virtual learning environment to help and support you through the course. You are expected to use this service and communicate with the tutor and other learners through this forum. This will be discussed with you at the start of your course. Access to a computer outside of class is essential.
“Do I need any special clothing or equipment?”
Course textbooks. A list will be provided for you at the star of the course.

The tutor will discuss all these at the firs class
“Do I need to have a massage qualification before doing the Aromatherapy?”
No, you will be taught the relevant massage techniques during this course.
“Who will I practice my massage with during the class?”
This course is open to men and women. Students’ role-play being client and therapist, and partners for practical work are assigned randomly. Health, safety and hygiene are an integral part of the course and client modesty is preserved at all times. The client is covered by towels and only the part of the body being massaged is uncovered.
