Course Overview:

This comprehensive painting and drawing course is aimed at improvers wishing to devote more time to their work and possibly progress onto higher level study or practice.

Entry Requirements:

Literacy level 2 advised although not essential. No previous painting and drawing needed although lots of enthusiasm and the ability to commit to one full day per week. Please note if you have already been awarded a Level 2 diploma you will not be able to undertake this course. College signature needed before enrolment to check eligibility for funding

Course Content:

The course will introduce you to a range of materials, processes and techniques in painting and drawing. It will begin with a series of exercises aimed at developing your confidence and skills, and then progress onto short projects in which you can apply these and start to develop your own individual interests and creativity. Alongside this you will be introduced to important art historical themes and movements to help contextualise your work. These will be some gallery visits during the course to give you the opportunity to discuss work in the flesh . Towards the end of the course you will be given increasing independence and support in refining your skills and developing your own approach. You will be required to keep a sketchbook to draw, collect, experiment and reflect on your work as it develops.

Assessment Methods:

Ongoing assessment throughout the course via group discussion and tutor feedback. You will be required to keep a journal/sketchbook during the course as well as a portfolio of the work you produce during the course.

Additional Information:

The cost of any visits to galleries is not included in the course fee. Still not sure if the course is right for you? You will have the possibility to meet your tutor, ask questions and receive further information on the course

A piece of willow charcoal and a 2B pencil. A list of additional materials will be provided on the first class.

Attendance:

Regular and punctual attendance will ensure you benefit fully from the course. Minimum of recommended 80% attended needed to achieve the learning aim.

You may want to progress onto a Level 3 Painting and Drawing course, or for those wanting to develop a full portfolio, go onto higher education or work professionally, the BTEC Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, or the Access to Art and Design course.

How to Enrol:

Enrolment is best carried out online. If you prefer to enrol in person, you can enrol at either the Clifden or Parkshot centres. You can also enrol by post, payment should be by cheque made payable to Richmond Adult Community College and sent to Postal Enrolments, RACC, Clifden Centre, Clifden Road, Twickenham TW1 4LT.

Frequently Asked Questions:

1. How much homework will I need to do outside of class? You should aim to set aside a few hours per week to continue working in your sketchbook or visit galleries. 2. What will happen if I miss a class? So long as you inform your tutor it is usually possible to catch up the following week or at home. 3. When will the exams take place? There is no exam for this course, just on going assessment. 4. Do I need any special clothing or equipment? Loose, comfortable clothes are advised. 5. Is there any tutorial support? You will have on going tutorial support throughout the course.
